| Russian plane crash is due to "tech Failure Egypt |
|
The plane – an Airbus A-321, operated by Russian airline Kogalymavia – was reported missing 23 minutes after taking off from the Egyptian resort of Sharm El-Sheikh early on Saturday morning, according to Russian news channel, RT. It reportedly was en route to St. Petersburg, Russia.
According to Reuters, the crash was confirmed in a statement from Egypt’s prime minister. A cabinet level crisis committee had been formed to handle the crash, Reuters also reported.
Local media in Egypt has initially reported that the crash is due to a “technical failure” and was not shot down.
Pilot Ayman Al-Mokadem, who is headed to the crash scene as part of a team to extract the plane’s black box, said that it seemed the plane had tried to land at Al-Arish’s airport in North Sinai after its pilot had sensed a fault.
Most of the passengers were thought to be Russian tourists, the BBC said.
